ITB Innovation Park Bandung Technopolis Officially Operates

Bandung, dkst.itb.ac.id – After going through a mature planning and development process, ITB Innovation Park Bandung Technopolis officially began operations on January 14, 2025. The operational relocation of the Directorate of Science and Technology Area (DKST) to the building located in the Summarecon Bandung area, Gedebage, serves as a continuation of the soft opening held on December 6, 2024. This activity also marks the beginning of centralized management for innovation research, startup incubation, technology transfer, and the downstreaming of ITB's research products.

This building serves as a complement to the ITB Innovation Park Ganesha, which has been actively operating since 2022. With the facilities in Gedebage, ITB now has two strategically connected innovation centers, creating an ecosystem that supports the downstreaming of research products and startup development so they are ready to enter both national and international markets.

Triple Helix Collaboration Support

The development of ITB Innovation Park Bandung Technopolis is inseparable from the triple helix collaboration among the government, industry, and higher education institutions. The construction of this building is listed as a national priority project in accordance with Presidential Regulation No. 18/2020 concerning the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020–2024.

Summarecon Bandung, through PT Mahkota Permata Perdana, provided a land grant of 6,027 square meters for the initial stage of construction, with an expansion potential of up to a total of 1 hectare. This project is also supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through the PRIME STeP (Promoting Research and Innovation through Modern and Efficient Science and Technology Parks) program with funding of $138.52 million.

Sustainable Modern Facilities

ITB Innovation Park Bandung Technopolis consists of two main buildings with a modern minimalist design carrying the philosophy of the "Four Pillars of ITB's Nationality" (Empat Pilar Kebangsaan ITB)—Technology, Science, Humanities, and Art. This project was carried out by PT Wijaya Karya Bangunan Gedung Tbk (WIKA Gedung) for 852 calendar days and was completed in November 2024.

This building is equipped with excellent facilities such as solar panels with a capacity of 159 KWP, natural ventilation based on the stack effect for energy efficiency, and a building orientation that minimizes heat absorption. As the first high-rise building with basement facilities in the Gedebage area, this innovation is designed to support user comfort and operational efficiency.

Driving the Commercialization of ITB Innovations and Startups

As an innovation center, ITB Innovation Park is designed to support the commercialization of research results and technology-based startups. Facilities such as co-working spaces, innovation laboratories, business incubators, and rental offices are available to help researchers and startups develop innovative and competitive products in the global market.

ITB's research products, which include IoT-based technology, sustainable materials, and digital solutions, can now enter the downstreaming stage faster through the facilities in Gedebage. This process is supported by the Directorate of Science and Technology Area, which provides mentoring and connects researchers with industry partners.

The management of this building is ready to be a catalyst in driving the downstreaming of ITB's research products, startup development, and technology-based economic transformation. According to Fook Yen Chong from the Southeast Asia Department of ADB, the adoption of new technologies has the potential to increase Indonesia's economic growth by 0.55% annually over the next two decades. With the ITB Innovation Park, this hope is getting closer to reality, making Indonesia more competitive in the global arena.

ITB Innovation Park Bandung Technopolis has now become the center of innovation, commercialization, and collaboration activities, consolidating ITB's contribution to research and technology development with a broad impact.
