PERURI and ITB Establish Research Collaboration on Biometric Chip Technology Development for Indonesian E-Passports

Bandung, dkst.itb.ac.id – Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and Peruri have officially established a research collaboration in the development of biometric chip technology for the Republic of Indonesia's e-passports. The signing took place on Thursday (September 4) at 13:00 WIB at the ITB Innovation Park, Jalan Ganesa, Bandung.

This cooperation agreement was signed by Prof. Ir. Lavi Rizki Zuhal, Ph.D., Vice Rector of ITB for Research and Innovation, and Dr. Saiful Bahri, SE, MM, Director of Currency and Security Solution at Peruri. In addition, a cooperation agreement was also signed between PT LAPI ITB, represented by its President Director, Yusmar Anggadinata, and Peruri, represented by Muhsin Yurgen, Head of the Research and Development Division of Peruri.

This collaboration marks a strategic step in strengthening the nation's independence in the field of digital security technology, particularly in official travel documents. The development of the biometric chip is expected to improve security standards, accelerate services, and strengthen global trust in Indonesian passports.

Following the signing, the event continued with a scientific discussion moderated by Prof. Ir. Arif Sasongko, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., from the School of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (STEI) ITB. The discussion further explored the opportunities, challenges, and directions for biometric chip development in e-passports as part of the technological transformation of national digital identity security.

Through the synergy among the university, state-owned enterprise (BUMN), and the campus research business unit, ITB and Peruri reaffirm their commitment to delivering concrete innovations that benefit society and support national strategic programs in the fields of digital transformation and cybersecurity.
